On April 24th 2016 I will join Team HAA and run in the Virgin Money London Marathon.
Earlier this year I set myself a seemingly impossible challenge of running a marathon before I reached the age of 40. My training was appalling and I suffered a nasty injury which hampered my efforts greatly. I finished the Adelaide Marathon in dead last place in a time of 6:10:22.
To this end, I realised that actually, it is incredibly difficult to maintain a safe and regular training regime whilst being so unfit and overweight and so I have embarked on a journey to rectify both issues. I'm currently 9kg lighter and concentrating on speed training before I commence my marathon training programme.
I aim to finish the London Marathon in less than 5 hours. I will also run with a healthy BMI and weight range.
Hearts Across Australia aims to improve the lives of men, women and children across Australia, by raising awareness about the benefits of active lifestyles, and encouraging Aussies to #movemore and #sitless
Created in 2015, when Gary Wilmot crossed Australia on foot from Perth to Brisbane, "HAA" promotes its message through a number of initiatives based around running and walking.
In April 2016, 6 runners are taking part in the London Marathon as a Hearts Across Australia team, continuing the fundraising and awareness-raising, and inspiring others along the way!
